About these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and Gareth Stringer, trading as 1% Learning, Cäsarstraße 74, 50968 Köln, Germany. They apply to our apps and this website. By using an app, you agree to them.
The apps
Our apps (1% German, and later 1% Spanish, 1% French and 1% Italian) help you practise an everyday language, one sentence at a time. Each app's teacher (Lisa in 1% German) uses AI to mark your answers and answer your questions. These terms apply to each app separately.
Who our apps are for
Our apps are for adults and teenagers aged 16 and over. Lessons use everyday adult situations, such as ordering a beer or a glass of wine.
Free sentence and subscriptions
- Your first sentence is free. No account or payment needed.
- After that, full access needs a subscription. Prices are shown in the app before you buy. For 1% German: €3.99 a month or €29.99 a year, after a 7-day free trial.
- Each app has its own subscription.
- You buy the subscription through Apple or Google, using your store account.
- It renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- You can cancel at any time in your Apple or Google account settings. Deleting the app or your account does not cancel it.
- If you cancel during the free trial, you won't be charged.
- Refunds are handled by Apple or Google, under their rules.
- Your legal rights as a consumer, including any right of withdrawal, apply as set out by Apple or Google, who sell the subscription.
- If prices change, Apple or Google will tell you in advance. You can cancel before the new price applies.
Fair use
We want Lisa to be there whenever you practise. To keep the app affordable, very heavy use in a month may switch Lisa to simpler marking until the next month. You're never cut off.
About Lisa's feedback
- Lisa is powered by AI. Her feedback is usually right, but it can occasionally be wrong.
- The course sentences are written and checked carefully, but mistakes can slip through.
- The app is a practice tool. It is not a certified course and doesn't lead to a qualification.
- For anything important, such as legal, medical or official matters, check your German with a qualified person.

Your answers
Your answers stay yours. You allow us to send them to our AI provider so Lisa can mark them. Please don't include personal or sensitive details.
Fair play
Please don't:
- misuse the app or try to break it
- copy, resell or reverse-engineer the app or its course
- use bots or scripts to access Lisa
- use Lisa for anything other than learning
We may suspend accounts that break these rules.
Your account
Keep access to your email or sign-in secure. You can delete your account at any time in Profile › Delete account.
Changes to the app
We keep improving the app, so features may change. We aim to keep it running smoothly, but we can't promise it will always be available or error-free.
Liability
We are fully liable for harm caused on purpose or through gross negligence, and for injury to life, body or health. For slight negligence, we are only liable if we breach an essential duty, and only for typical, foreseeable damage. Liability under the German Product Liability Act is not affected.
Apple users
If you got the app from the App Store:
- These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content.
- Apple has no duty to provide maintenance or support for the app.
- If the app fails to meet any warranty, you can tell Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price. Beyond that, Apple has no warranty duty.
- Apple is not responsible for any claims about the app, including product liability, legal compliance or intellectual property.
- Apple and its subsidiaries can enforce these terms as third parties.
Law
German law applies. If you're a consumer in another EU country, you keep the protections of your own country's law.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we'll update the date at the top and tell you in the app if the change is important.
