Privacy policy
Last updated: 12 October 2026
The short version
- We collect as little as we can.
- No ads, no tracking, and we never sell your data.
- Your answers are sent to an AI service to be marked. We don't keep them.
- You can delete your account and data at any time.
Who we are
1% Learning is run by Gareth Stringer, Cäsarstraße 74, 50968 Köln, Germany. We are responsible for your data under the GDPR.
Contact: support@onepercentlearning.com
This policy covers our apps (1% German, and later 1% Spanish, 1% French and 1% Italian) and this website.
What we collect, and why
On your phone only
Your name (if you give one), level, progress, streak and reminder time are saved on your phone. They stay there unless you save your progress to an account.
A guest ID
When you first use the app, it creates a random guest ID. It contains no name or email. We use it so Lisa can mark your answers, and to track fair use: how many times Lisa was used each month and what it cost.
Your answers and questions
When you answer a lesson or ask Lisa a question, the text goes through our server to Anthropic, the AI company whose models power Lisa. We don't store your answers or questions on our servers. Anthropic processes them only to produce Lisa's reply, keeps them for a short time under its own policies, and does not use them to train its models.
Please don't type personal details, such as your address or health information, into your answers.
Your account (if you save your progress)
- Your email address, or your Apple or Google sign-in. With Apple or Google, we receive your email address, a user ID from Apple or Google, and your first name if you choose to share it. With Apple, you can hide your real email.
- Your progress: sentences learnt, scores, words, level and streak.
This lets you keep your progress and use it on another phone.
If you sign in with Apple, we also keep a sign-in token from Apple on our server. We use it only to tell Apple to remove the link to our app when you delete your account.
Subscriptions
Apple or Google handle payment. We never see your card or bank details. Our subscription service, RevenueCat, receives your guest or account ID and your purchase details (plan, dates, status) so the app knows you've subscribed.
Sign-in emails
When you sign in with an email code, our email provider, Resend, receives your email address to send the code.
App updates
Small app updates are delivered by Expo. When the app checks for an update, Expo receives technical details such as your IP address, app version and phone type.
Crash reports
If the app crashes or hits an error, our error-reporting service, Sentry, receives technical details: what went wrong, the app version, phone type and system version, and your guest or account ID. It does not receive your answers or questions. We use this only to find and fix problems.
Daily reminder
The reminder is set on your phone. It works without our servers. You can turn it off in Profile or in your phone's settings.
Emails to support
If you email us, we use your email and message only to help you.
This website
This site is hosted by Cloudflare. Cloudflare processes your IP address to deliver the site and protect it from attacks. The site uses no cookies and no analytics, and its fonts are stored on our own site, not loaded from Google.
Our legal reasons
- To provide the app you asked for (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR): marking, saving progress, sign-in, subscriptions, support.
- Our legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR): keeping the service secure, fair use, app updates, and fixing errors.
- Your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR): the daily reminder, given through your phone's permission.

- Fair-use records: up to 12 months.
- Crash reports: up to 90 days.
- Support emails: as long as needed to help you, then deleted.
Your rights
You can ask us to show you the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, limit how we use it, or give it to you in a common format. You can also object to how we use it, and withdraw consent at any time.
Email support@onepercentlearning.com. We'll reply within one month.
You can also complain to a data protection authority. Ours is the Landesbeauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit Nordrhein-Westfalen (LDI NRW).
Children

Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. For important changes, we'll tell you in the app.
